Oriental Hope Baotou Sea Level Polymer Industry Co., Ltd. / Inner Mongolia Yidong Group Dongxing Chemical Co., Ltd.

Both of the aforementioned enterprises utilize Asahi Kasei’s NCZ-2.7 electrolyzers, with a caustic soda production capacity of 320,000 tonnes and a corresponding PVC capacity of 400,000 tonnes. During maintenance and electrode replacement for Asahi Kasei electrolyzers, particular attention must be paid to the integrity of the anode sealing surfaces; any corroded or leaking sealing surfaces should be properly repaired and then coated with a precious-metal layer to ensure effective corrosion protection. At Baotou Haipingping Company, the normal operating current density of the electrolyzers is 5.5 kA, but following the retrofit, the maximum adjustable operating current density has been increased to 6.0 kA. The plant is equipped with Asahi Kasei’s latest F7001-series ion-exchange membranes, and at an operating current density of 6.0 kA, the average cell voltage is approximately 3.02 V. Inner Mongolia Yidong Group’s Dongxing Chemical ceased production in April 2019; after a comprehensive evaluation, the company recognized our coating technology for resisting reverse current and therefore selected our electrolyzer retrofit solution. In October 2020, the company commissioned Line 1, comprising five electrolyzers. This line was designed to produce 480 tonnes per day of 100% caustic soda, but following our retrofit, daily output has reached 485 tonnes, exceeding the design capacity. In terms of energy consumption, with an operating current of 14.85 kA, a cell temperature of 90°C, and a 32% caustic soda concentration, and using Asahi Kasei’s F6801 ion-exchange membrane, the corrected operating cell voltage is 2.88 V, and all performance indicators remain within normal ranges.
